Straight Up

“Straight Up” is a 30 minute program which focuses on the many serious and sensitive issues which affect communities, families, and, especially, teens. The hostess is straight-forward as she explores the core issues of drugs, crime, pornography, etc. She talks to people “right off the street” as well as the police department and other community officials. The goal of “Straight Up” is to hear “from the people, themselves” their issues and concerns and how their community can help make things better--straight up.

“Straight up” is hosted by Clara Shepherd, a well-known community figure who by her own admission has bettered herself the “hard way”. Clara, herself a mother of 8, has a passion to help youngsters avoid the pitfalls she experienced in her growing-up years and, because of this drive, volunteers her time and effort to helping the youth of the next generation.

Welcome to Mission Connections!
This program is a 30-minute program filmed “on-location” at the Muskegon Rescue Mission.
Its purpose is to connect back into the community, sharing the struggles that we all face, offering advice and possible solutions, as well as providing
the viewer an "inside look" at the Muskegon Rescue Mission, its people, and the services it provides by demonstrating and proclaiming God's love for the homeless and less fortunate.

To fulfill its mission, the Muskegon Rescue Mission uses the four R's:
Rescue
Redeem
Restore
Rebuild

Mission Connections is hosted by Karla Skoglund. A native of Muskegon, and a former nurse, she has been the Executive Director of the Muskegon Rescue Mission for the past eleven years. Karla’s passion is the ministry of rescue and working with people who are in need:

Helping them to grow in relationships and succeed in whatever they choose to do.
