Pursuing the Martial Arts
“Pursuing the Martial Arts” is a 60 minute program focusing on the Martial Arts and other fighting methods
including several styles of Karate, Tae Kwan Do, Kung Fu, Boxing, Wrestling, etc.
The show actually travels to different area-studios, interviewing and filming the Martial Artists in action.
Episodes feature self-defense strategies and demonstrations of other areas of Martial Arts including Katas, which are performed to learn the application of techniques, as well as various weapons including Bo, Tonfa, Arnis, Nunchucks, Sai, etc. Occasionally, special shows are produced which bring different clubs together to focus on these areas and to compare and contrast different styles and approaches. The goal of the program is to acquaint the people of our community with the fascinating world of Martial Arts and give them the opportunity to choose a style of self-defense that best suits their interests and abilities.
“Pursuing the Martial Arts” is hosted by Tom Twining, a 7th Degree Master Level Instructor, who has been studying the Martial Arts since 1970; and has spent the last 35 years training in Chi Do Kwan, a Korean style of Karate. He has, also, had extensive training in other styles and has attended many seminars and demonstrations with other world-renowned instructors. Tom has competed and won awards in over 15- empty hand forms, weapons and sparring events in addition to performing over 500 Martial Arts demonstrations throughout the Midwest. Tom is an instructor at Northwinds Fitness Center in North Muskegon where his focus is on the American Karate System, Okinawan Karate and Chi Do Kwan in addition to other Martial Arts including Aikido, Kendo and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
Tom also instructs a women’s self-defense seminar called “E-Z DEFENSE FOR WOMEN”.
This program is marketed to various groups and corporations.
